The St. Louis Modern Chinese School was founded in 1997 and is still operated today by a group of educated, intelligent Chinese-Americans. The school is a registered non-profit Chinese language school that services the St. Louis community - offering Chinese language classes both for children and adults.
St. Louis Modern Chinese School is the largest Chinese school in the Midwestern United States, and one of the largest Chinese language schools in the entire country.
The school was built to encourage the education of Chinese culture and language.
They teach simplified Chinese characters plus the Pin Yin Chinese Romanization system.
On a typical school day, the first session teaches the basics of Chinese language.
The second session emphasizes speaking, reading and writing.
The last two sessions offer the elective classes chosen by the students such as martial arts, math, art, dance, waist drum, and arts and crafts.
They also offer an array of adult classes and activities.
Their public donations, volunteers, and tuition support the school activities.
The St. Louis Modern Chinese School also hosts an annual Christmas Gala.
Graduates of the St. Louis Modern Chinese School are fluent in Mandarin Chinese. Some of their graduates went on to attend such prestigious institutions as Yale, Princeton, MIT, Washington University in St. Louis, University of Chicago, Duke, Harvard, and Rice University.
