Suitable etiquette and gifts for Chinese New Year

I will be spending spring festival with my Chinese friend and her family. What is suitable etiquette and presents for the day that I visit them in their home?

When you go to your friend's family to spend spring festival...

if she is just your good friend, then a fruit basket gift is okay.
if she is your girlfriend, then you have to take gifts especially for the parents or the elders. For instance, if her father and grandfather like to drink, you can take a bottle of red wine or other kind of wine. Tailor your gift according to their personal preferences.

As for suitable etiquette, be polite and pay attention not to mention words related to death or other bad meanings.

If you are good at cooking, maybe you can help her mother with the cooking.
