A group of Chinese parents founded the WeiHwa Chinese School in 1974 as a non-profit educational institution. Why? Because these Chinese parents didn't want their children to forget their mother tongue.

Over the years, WeiHwa Chinese School has thrived and is now one of the oldest and largest Chinese language schools in the greater Washington area.

The WeiHwa Chinese School teaches Chinese language-based curriculum. They feature simplified Chinese characters and Pinyin. They also offer other extra-curricular activities such as:

• Taekwondo
• Tai Chi: learn stress relief, meditation, self confidence, self defense and physical fitness
• Chinese painting: basic Chinese brush painting skills
• folk dance

WeiHwa Chinese School's mission is give Chinese American children the opportunity to learn the 5000 year old Chinese culture. Anyone interested in learning Chinese language and culture is welcomed, regardless of country or political background, or religion.
