Is this appropriate in Chinese culture?
What is the appropriateness of “older” men giving gifts to young, Chinese, female students? The man is a westerner and married. The girl is 20 and not in a relationship.

Any gift that is not related to a relationship would be considered appropriate.
If you are not sure, the best gifts should relate to her studies. For instance, a book, a pen, a dictionary, and so on.
