What is the Chinese name for Andrew?

by Andrew

I am a college student, interning in China for the summer. After living here for a month, I decided to get a Chinese name. My name is Andrew, and a co-worker suggested I choose AnDeRu.

They didn't tell me the Chinese characters, so I was wondering if 安德孺 sounds okay.

What is your opinion?

Thanks,
Andrew

Victoria's Answer:

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for your question.

We usually translate the English name Andrew into Chinese as AnDeLu. The characters are "安德鲁".

My point of view is to choose "安德鲁".

Andrew, here's a second opinion for you from Ding, the creator of Great-Chinese-Names.com

Hi Andrew,

The common Chinese transliteration for Andrew is 安德鲁 ān dé lǔ.

The Chinese like to call each other with a shorter name. Usually in 2 characters. AnDeLu is 3 syllables long.

If you want to go for a shorter 2 character name, I can suggest 安督 ān dū. This makes it easier for your Chinese friends to address you.

Cheers,
Ding
