What type of flowers or plants to send my Chinese wife?
by Jeff
What flower or plant is meaningful in the Chinese culture — especially in the south part near Guangzhou and Guangdong? You see, my wife and I were dive instructors in Asia.
We got married and she became pregnant. I just recently moved back west and she will be waiting in Guangdong until after the birth, and another 5 months after for healing.
I just want to send her something to let her know that I miss her deeply and look forward to see her again when the child is born.
Thank you for your time.
Victoria's Answer:Nihao Jeff,
Congratuations!
The best flower for the new mother is Carnations. It is not only because they are flowers for a mother, but also they help to absorb toxic chemicals.
The orchid, the sweet-scented osmanthus, the Chimonathus Praecox are also good choices. They are natural dust removers and their cilium can temporarily stop and attract stagnates, particles, mist and dust in the air.
As far as I know there aren't any types of plants or flowers that have special meanings in Chinese culture that might be appropriate for an expecting mother. When we go to visit mothers or expecting mothers, we usually send them Carnations.
